Everyone loves seeing the sights and sounds of Japan.  The Japan-America Society of Houston has found a series of videos on the internet for your viewing pleasure.  Please enjoy.  If you also have other videos that might interest other JASH members, please contact us at jash@jashouston.org
Japanese taiko drums, while having antecedents in Chinese and Korean Janggu drums, have been developed into a wide range of percussion instruments that are used in both Japanese folk and classical musical traditions.

Every year, at our Japan Festival (located in Hermann Park), Taiko Drummers amaze our audiences with the great sounds of these wonderful instruments.

Ikebana, one of the traditional arts of Japan, has been practiced for more than 600 years. It developed from the Buddhist ritual of offering flowers to the spirits of the dead. By the middle of the fifteenth century, with the emergence of the first classical styles, Ikebana achieved the status of an art form independent of its religious origins, though it continued to retain strong symbolic and philosophical overtones.

The JASH, through the graciousness of our volunteers, provides Ikebana classes for those who are interested.

The Skinkansen, also known as the 'Bullet Train," aids Japanese citizens (and visitors alike) to visit major cities throughout the land for a reasonable price.  The Shinkansen is nicknamed the Bullet Train due to it's sheer speed and efficiency.

This video is a brief look from a window in the train.
